7th grade Chemistry
Balancing equations, mixing chemicals and detecting acids. All this will and more will be what 7th graders take on these next few weeks. If you miss a class or need the work to make up so you can do the fun experiments that we have planned playing with chemicals, then click here to find some balancing equations practice (or go to the "Learn it Again" page). You can also find notes and worksheets under the Powerpoint and Homework pages under "Counting Atoms Practice".

Review here with a practice test:
A dream deferredLangston Hughes knew what it was to be told "You can't do this", but those words did not stop him from becoming one of the most famous writers around. In a poem he wrote titled "A Dream Deferred", Mr. Hughes speaks of this "can't do it" attitude that people showed him. He wonders what would have happened if he let other people tell him he couldn't succeed instead of just going out and working hard to earn success himself. There are many opportunities to become successful which are lost because we let someone tell us things like "you are not smart enough" or "that is too hard for you". Remember, ONLY ONE PERSON CAN PREDICT YOUR FUTURE, YOU. Just because someone says that you will not reach your goals, doesn't mean you won't. Keep trying. Even the most famous and richest people out there had to work hard. More importantly, they didn't let someone else take away their success. Every failure made their every success that much greater. Check out the poem in the Class Announcements, and let us know what you think.

Spotlight personality of the Month: AprilLewis Latimer
Ever wonder what life would be like without light bulbs? Well, thanks to the hard work of people like Thomas Edison we do. However, if it had not been for this scientist, Lewis Latimer, we would still be using huge and clunky light bulbs that didn't last very long. Mr. Latimer invented an important part of the light bulb — the carbon filament, which is what allows us to make light bulbs that fit into your phone or flashlight and last years!
